A great weekend getaway in The Netherlands is Texel island especially in the summer time. Here are five great tips when visiting De Koog, Texel.
1) Best hotel on Texel: Strandhotel Noordzee in De Koog.
Strandhotel Noordzee is the only hotel that is actually located right on the beach!
No need to walk through town or through the dunes to get to the beach. You walk out of the hotel and you are right there.

2) Beachclub Texel, De Koog.
Only a 5 to 10 minute beach walk away from Strandhotel Noordzee is a beautiful and popular beach pavilion named "Beachclub Texel". Great for enjoying food and drinks on De Koog beach (strand).

3) De Koog Beach and Dunes walk.
When you're on Texel, you can't miss out on going for a long walk on the beach and stroll through the dunes. It is the most peaceful experience and the nature surrounding you is absolutely breathtaking! There's nothing like feeling the wind from the sea, hearing the waves crash, and the seabirds squawk.
De Koog Beach is dog friendly so dogs are welcome!

4) De Koog: restaurants, shops, supermarkets & more.
De Koog is a great small beach town that has everything you need for when you want a break from the beach. From De Koog beach to downtown De Koog, it's a 10 minute walk. A little bit of hills because of the dunes, but not too bad. (See the video of the walk below) De Koog has many restaurants, shops, and there are two large supermarkets Jumbo and Liddle there. It's a fun little town and some places provide entertainment like live music at night.

Restaurant Tip Texel: Burgers, Beer and Blues.
It's located right in downtown De Koog on Texel Island. The food was delicious and the servers were friendly. Definitely try one of the locally brewed beers to have the full Texel island experience.
5) Taking the TESO Ferry from Den Helder to Texel (and back).
The way to get to Texel is by ferry. It takes about 30 minutes to get from Den Helder to Texel. The ferry is a pleasant experience with beautiful views of the sea. There are lots of different areas to sit and walk around both inside and outside. There's even a full restaurant and gift shop on the ferry! It made me wish the ferry ride took longer than 30 minutes.

Texel is a beautiful island to visit. In the winter it's cold but it's super peaceful and calm everywhere. Of course Texel is best to visit in the summer but definitely expect it to be crowded. Texel is a very popular summer getaway. Book hotels early if you're thinking about going in the summer.
