It is always a good time to eat pancakes! The Pancake Bakery in Amsterdam is a great place to go. The Pancake Bakery has been open since 1973 and that makes it the oldest pancake restaurant in Amsterdam. The restaurant is located in the basement of a historic 17th century canal warehouse and serves over a hundred different kind of pancakes! It's located on the Prinsengracht (Prince's canal) which is part of the well-known and beautiful Amsterdam Canal District. Only a 5-minute walk from the Anne Frank house.
The restaurant is in the basement of the former Dutch East India Company's warehouses that were built during the Dutch Golden Age. The pioneers of the trading company would sail their ships around the world to gather goods. The buildings are named Faith, Hope, and Love. Inside the restaurant many original features are still noticeable and it adds to the nostalgic atmosphere. Plus the culinary influences of the past are reflected in the Pancake Bakery's cuisine. Who knew you could find such a neat and cozy family restaurant inside a 17th century warehouse?!
The Pancake Bakery's menu is a mix of traditional Dutch pancakes and internationally inspired pancakes. They also serve breakfast dishes, giant omelets, soups, salads, and more. They are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Of course when you are here the pancakes are a must-have! There are more than a 100 different kinds of pancakes and there is the "build your own" option. Dutch pancakes, "Pannenkoeken", are thicker than a French crêpe but thinner than an American pancake. They can be made either sweet or savory. How about a French inspired pancake with melted goat cheese, thyme, sun-dried tomatoes, pine nuts, and honey? Or a pancake with banana, rum, and whipped cream? The sky is the limit! Definitely check out the Pancake Bakery's amazing menu to see all the options!
