Pawhuska is a lovely small town in Oklahoma which many may know from Pioneer Woman's blog and cooking show on Food Network. Pawhuska is located in Osage County near Tulsa and is also known as the "Steer Roping Capital of the World". Home of the western cowboys and ranch life. Many cattle ranches are located in this area including the famous Drummond Ranch which has been around since 1913. Surrounded by miles and miles of beautiful plains this charming town sure is a treat to visit.
Thanks to Pioneer Woman (Ree Drummond) the former Osage oil boom town has now revived into one of America's most famous small towns! The decision to open the Pioneer Woman businesses in Pawhuska and to renovate some of the original buildings, shows the love and support for the town and its people. How great that Ree Drummond decided to share the beauty of small town Pawhuska with the rest of the world!
All the Pioneer Woman businesses are centrally located in downtown Pawhuska right by all kinds of cute local shops and the Weigant's pharmacy. All within a short walking distance from eachother. The perks of a small town! Everything is so easy to find. While visiting, keep in mind that like most small towns, the majority of businesses are closed on Sundays and close earlier at night than in most cities.
The Buckin' Flamingo
The Buckin' Flamingo is the most fun store in town! Guaranteed to bring a smile to your face. They offer many unique items perfect for bringing fun into your home. It is also a great place to find the best gifts, especially for the ones who like a good laugh. All kinds of metal art, yard signs, funny socks, a large selection of turquoise jewelry, special sh*t seasonings, hilarious butt bar stools, locally made products, and so much more. The Buckin' Flamingo regularly invites local artists and vendors to their store to share their work. Great way to meet people from the area and try local products. This place is only a short walk from the Mercantile and is hard to miss, just look for the bright pink flamingo sign!
Osage Outfitters
The best place for clothes and boots shopping is Osage Outfitters. The cowboy gear and ladies boutique is the perfect mix of cute southern fashion and modern and traditional cowboy attire. Let this store surprise you! They have the best and cutest selection of boots and booties in so many different colors, patterns and styles. So many styles of hats and they will shape the hat to your liking! Plus ranch accessories you don't see everywhere like colorful ropes. Located right next door to P-Town Pizza it is definitely worth checking out.
Other Pawhuska Attractions
Besides visiting the Pioneer Woman attractions and local shops, there are lots of other things to do in Pawhuska. Visit the swinging bridge. Built in 1926 this chain link and wood plank bridge was the only way to cross over Bird Creek back in the day. If you like to enjoy nature visit the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve. Beautiful rolling prairie and a chance to see wild bison roam around.
Travel tip: Walk the stairs all the way up to the Osage County Courthouse and enjoy the beautiful view overlooking all of Pawhuska.
For some history on all the ranches in Pawhuska including the Drummond Ranch and to find out more about all the rodeo world champions that come from Pawhuska, visit the Ben Johnson Cowboy museum. The museum also has a great gift shop, a must-visit if you're into western heritage and cowboy culture. Read more about Ben Johnson Cowboy Museum here.
