Maho Village is a small town on the Dutch side of the island of Sint Maarten - Saint Martin. Small but mighty! It is home to the largest casino on the island and home to one of the biggest and most popular resorts > Sonesta Maho Beach Resort & Sonesta Ocean Point. It is a less than 10-minute drive away from the Princess Juliana International Airport. Maho has everything you need while on vacation. There are several small shops, bars, and restaurants. More importantly > there's also a small grocery store, a souvenir gift shop, and a pharmacy.
It is very pedestrian friendly, everything is walkable. Maho Village is basically this one short street called Rhine Road. The popular Maho Beach with all the famous plane landings is also only short walk away, right past the local grocery store Maho Market. I will definitely cover Maho Beach in a future post, but as a bonus, I've already shared amazing Maho Beach plane landings & take-off videos on The Weekly Departure's YouTube Channel! Check it out.
Casino Royale offers great entertainment including some big shows. They are responsible for most of Maho Village's nightlife. Don't be surprised if you see live dance performances on the street in front of the casino at night! Other bars and restaurants also offer live entertainment at night. From live music to games and karaoke. There truly is something for everyone.
The village is well kept and developed. A company called Maho Group is well invested in this village and puts in a lot of love and care. This company owns the Sonesta Maho Beach Resort, Sonesta Ocean Point, Casino Royale, Royal Islander Club La Plage (timeshares), and other successful properties on the island.
The locals are what makes St Maarten and Maho village such a great place. It is no surprise really that St Maarten is called the friendly island. The SXM Drumline is a true example of the spirit and heart of St Maarten. Watch the videos of them at the end of this article. After hurricane Irma completely destroyed the island in 2017, everyone worked hard to rebuild the island and you can feel how much love and pride the people have for the island. If you visit the island now, you can see all the tremendous work that has been done. The island came back strong and is as beautiful as ever!
If you are staying at the Sonesta Maho Beach Resort or Sonesta Ocean Point, or simply just visiting for a few hours, Maho Village and Maho Beach have everything you need to have a good time.
Until the next departure!
Maho Village
A beautiful small village with everything you need for a great vacation.
On a personal note: I was in Maho during the category 5 hurricane Irma. I got evacuated from the island three days after the hurricane. If you are interested in seeing some of my hurricane Irma - Maho Beach videos, check out this The Weekly Departure's YouTube playlist.
