A great place to visit all year round is Fort Myers Beach. It's a fun town with a beautiful seven mile stretch of beachfront located on Estero Island on the Gulf of Mexico. Fort Myers Beach almost feels like a small vibrant tropical island. It has a cute and colorful Times Square with lots of shops and restaurants. The beach is perfect for long walks. Plenty of places to sit down and relax. There are many activities to enjoy like fishing, boating, and all kinds of watersports. Many wonderful places to eat and drink. Plus almost every month Fort Myers Beach hosts some kind of fun event. It really does have something for everyone!
Getting around is super easy, just follow Estero Boulevard! It's the one main road that runs through all of the town of Fort Myers Beach. Beach access can be found all along Estero Boulevard and there are multiple parking lots. If you're visiting by boat there is a nice marina (Moss Marina) on the north side of the island.
The heart of Fort Myers Beach is the Times Square. Times square is a fun little area with lots of shops and restaurants. The shops are great for souvenirs, bathing suits, and beach supplies. There is also a big Publix Super Market on the island just further east near the area with all the private homes and beach houses. Anything you need you can find here.
The beachfront has four distinct areas. The northwest section is the area where all the big hotels and resorts are located like the Pink Shell Beach Resort, Best Western Plus Beach Resort, and the Edison Beach House. The "middle" area is where the famous Fort Myers Beach Fishing Pier is located (adjacent to Times Square). Here you'll find all the restaurants. While in Fort Myers beach, you have to try the amazing seafood! Two of my favorite restaurants have been featured in my previous posts; the Salty Crab Bar & Grill, and the Sunset Beach Tropical Grill & The Playmore Tiki Bar.
Generally the beach is the most crowded in the popular "middle" area. All the restaurants, entertainment, and rental booths are here. It's an easy walk to get drinks and food. Beach chairs and umbrellas are available to rent. Plenty of fun watersport options! Several places offer the rental of jet ski's, paddle boards, etc. Have a go at parasailing or a banana ride!
Travel tip: watch the sunset from the Fort Myers Beach Fishing Pier. It's the best view!
The third section starts past the Lani Kai hotel. Here, the beach slowly starts to get less populated as you move further southeast. This is the area where you see the private beach houses. If you prefer a more calm and quiet beach experience this area is perfect for that! Just come prepared with your own beach supplies and a cooler with drinks. The fourth section is all the way at the southeastern tip. There are a few hotels there and a nature's preserve at the end.
Do you enjoy fun festivals and events? Fort Myers Beach is all about fun and hosts several popular annual community events like the American Sand Sculpting Championship, Fort Myers Beach Christmas Boat Parade, and the Taste of the Beach food festival. To see all the upcoming events, visit here.
Fort Myers Beach definitely is the place to have a good time. It is perfect for a family vacation, a trip with friends, or just a calm relaxing day on the beach.
Until the next departure!
